Noyah Lipstick Review & Swatches- Hazelnut Cream, Deeply in Mauve & African Nights

Noyah are based in America and not only do they care about their ingredients, but also their packaging. Their colour range is varied from the more muted to quite rich and dark. They also make lip glosses and balms.

I’ve since swatched the rest of their range, so please click here to find that post:

They say their products are:

‘Kosher, all-natural formulas that are good inside and out, hydrate and condition lips, and come in fun shades and flavors that might fill you with the curious urge to take a bite out of your product.’

Organic Certification:

None. They are not vegan, as they contain beeswax, however they do not contain carmine or FD&C pigments as a colorant. They are gluten free.

They expire 6 months after opening. This is surprising and I’m not sure why they would only last this long.

$18.00 US for 4.5g or 0.16oz. At the time of currency conversion I paid approximately $23.00 AUS. They do ship worldwide and shipping to Australia was only $10.00 US. You can also purchase them from Biome for $34.95 AUD.

Ingredients:

Noyah Lipstick Swatches. African Nights, Hazelnut Cream & Deeply in Mauve. Gone Swatching xo

Packaging:

When I first opened these I loved the packaging straight away. The cherry tree print on the bamboo case, with gold circling the middle looks at the same time classy and eco-chic. They say that earth-friendly bamboo packaging results in a 60% reduction in plastic. Noyah is printed on the front, while the top is engraved with their logo. To find the colour, look at the sticker on the bottom. When the lid clicks down, it doesn’t feel as secure as other lipstick bullets, but your product is safe.

These are so beautifully smooth and creamy. Initially the smell of oil and waxes is strong but it fades quickly.

One swipe gives your lips full coverage of colour. Two swipes and it cancels out the colour of your lips completely. This is a proper lipstick.

Swatches:

Deeply in Mauve, Hazelnut Cream & African Nights

arm-swatches

Deeply in Mauve

‘Deeply in Mauve has a semi-matte, cream finish that leaves your lips hydrated and nourished. With this luxuriously rich shade of mauve, you can apply a light coat to work as a day-time neutral or build on for a lip statement that will turn heads.’

This colour is much more purple based than the website shows.

I wish I were more adventurous because I love the bold look of this colour. It’s a vampy, deep mauve. As you can see there isn’t much of a difference in colour payoff from the light and heavy swatch. The colour has a sheen and is comfortable to wear. You can always blot to mattify the sheen.

Hazelnut cream

‘A your-lips-but-better shade that won’t leave lips looking flat brings on the moisture while creating the illusion of fuller lips.’

This is too light and too pink to be ‘a my lips but better’ shade. It comes off as a bright, barbie pink on my lips. I’m not a huge fan of shimmer in lip colours, but luckily it’s not too detectable.

African Nights

‘African Nights has a semi-matte, cream finish that leaves your lips hydrated and nourished. With this luxuriously rich shade of red, you can make a statement that will turn heads.’

I thought by the photo that this wouldn’t be as blue based as it is, yet it’s not unwearable for my skin tone. I actually love it. It’s not a brick red, so it’s bright, commanding and stunning. I like the sheen, as it makes me feel like I’m wearing a proper red.

PROS:

  • Colour is amazing and full bodied
  • The formula is not heavy, even when you layer
  • They leave a stain
  • The pricing is very reasonable and so is shipping.
  • There are no synthetic fragrances, so despite the scent they are still wearable
  • Moisturizing
  • They are not matte, but I think the sheen suits them, especially African Nights.

CONS:

  • The smell is strong enough to be noticeable and as it’s not perfumed, it might bother those who aren’t used to having perfume as a masking scent.
  • Not vegan
  • It’s very hard to determine an accurate colour from their website
  • You will have to blot to mattify the colours.

Final Word:

The bold colours are something that I have to get used to, but for someone who already is, they are a great alternative to conventional lipsticks. I love the packaging. I love the feel of the formula.

Hazelnut Cream is not suited as a ‘my lips but better’ for those with darker pigmented lips. African Nights suited me so much better than I was expecting, so if you’re looking for a red, that isn’t burgundy or too warm, then it may work for warmer skin tones.  I did find that the pictures they used on their website did not represent the colours correctly.
