Adorn Cosmetics are an Australian based company focused on mineral and organic makeup, that is free from parabens and petrochemicals. They also provide refills, to help minimize the impact of packaging on the planet.

The website states their lipsticks are:

‘Nourishing, cruelty free formulation infused with high performance natural and organic ingredients, including Jojoba Seed Oils and Shea Butter, is soft and gentle on your lips, with a creamy, flawless finish that feels as luxurious as it looks.’

They do not have official certification because of the inclusion of minerals, which cannot be considered organic. Their loose powders are 100% mineral, while their cream and liquid products are mainly comprised of minerals with some certified organic plant ingredients added. Their Liquid Eye liner, Style Icon Lip Sticks and Glosses however contain more organic ingredients than minerals and are over 70% organic. They are nano-particle free, gluten free, cruelty free and palm oil free.

There is a very, very slight sweet scent for me. It’s barely noticeable, which is good because they do add orange peel oil for scent.

For the most part, they are creamy and smooth, with a little slip on the lips. The lighter colours were not quite as creamy as the darker ones. They all have a sheen, so blotting will be needed for a matte look.

I used the little doe foot applicators they sent. It makes it easier to scrape product out of the tubs. I’m sure if you buy the full size, applying direct from the bullet would be fine.

I found that the opacity varied from shade as well. The darker ones had better opacity, and it lessened as I went down the spectrum of colours.

Dusty Pink, Berry Pink, Coral, Deep Red, Natural Red, Rustic Mocha & Natural Pink

Rustic Mocha

This has no shimmer and is a good flat, light brown on me. In fact in the photos, it’s a little hard to tell I’m wearing much colour. It still has a glossier finish, and I do think this would suit being matte. This one is the creamiest I tried.

Deep Red

This has shimmer and is indeed a deep, ruby red. You don’t feel shimmer and it’s barely detectable to the eye. The texture of this one is lovely and the opacity in one swipe is better than the lighter colours. This one would leave a stain after the lipstick has worn away.

Natural Red

Natural red swatches as a warm soft red, with no shimmer. I still think it pulls quite pink on me. It’s definitely not a true red like African Nights by Noyah. However, it is a good red to start with if you’re not used to the boldness. I liked this colour the most as it was opaque with little effort, yet could be sheered out for a softer look. The warmth in it also suited me really well.

Dusty Pink

Dusty Pink looks like a mid, slightly warmer pink, with a tiny amount of shimmer. It comes off as a light pink, that borders on pastel on me. I found that it did not spread as easily as the reds and it took a little more product and effort to make the coverage even.

Natural Pink

This looks like a mid shade of mauve pink in the pot. My lips must be darker than the pigment, because it swatches a weird pastel purple on me.

Berry Pink

I found that this was one of the hardest to apply. I think the shimmer in it causes the formula to apply patchy and it was really hard to create an even swipe. The colour is bright, luscious pink and actually quite beautiful once you have it on. It doesn’t look as deep in the pot as it does on my lips.

Coral

If I thought that Berry Pink was hard to apply, it had nothing on Coral. I could barely apply this evenly. The initial swipe was not opaque and seemed to just move around when I tried to cover my lips. It was pastel from the beginning and sunk into my fine lines. It took me a lot of product to get even coverage. It can be built up to a more neon shade, yet it still looks pastel and very unnatural on me.

PROS:

• Deep Red, Natural Red and Rustic Mocha are the best in terms of formulation and texture
• Natural Red was my favourite as a softer red. While it has a sheen, you can blot and it changes the look of it considerable, so it’s a versatile shade
• Scent is barely noticeable
• Reasonably priced
• Even though Rustic Mocha isn’t what I would chose, I do like it for a nude brown. It’s not too light to wash me out
• Deep Red, Berry Pink leave the most noticeable stains. Natural Red  will leave a slight stain

CONS:

• The formula is not consistent throughout the range
• I found the lighter shades turned extremely unflattering shades of pastel on me
• Lighter shades are less opaque than the darker shades
• Lighter shades apply patchy
• Light shades are not suited to those with a darker skin tone

Final Word:

This is the perfect example of how not all colours are suited to all skin tones. None of the lighter colours worked for me, instead turning a pastel shade. I think if that was what you wanted, then they would work, as long as you could make the formula work as well. I hated the way Coral and Berry Pink applied. Both were patchy and uneven, while Coral was so difficult to build up to an opaque shade. Natural Pink and Dusty Pink were better, in that they were creamier and not as difficult to apply evenly. Even then, they weren’t the best.

I loved the look of Natural Red. It really was a more natural flush of warm red, that wasn’t overpowering, yet still had impact. Don’t buy it if you want a true red. Buy it because it’s an easy, every day comfortable red. The formula was what you want in a lipstick, full coverage and moisturizing.
