Of all the Beauty Subscription Boxes on the market, I always keep an eye on the bi-monthly offerings from Boxwalla. They always seem to curate the most intriguing products, from all over the world. I find that all their subscription boxes are thoughtfully created, with products that often complement each other.
They often pay close attention to the current seasons, so you might receive richer formulations during winter or ones that promise more protection during summer. As always they focus on innovative plant-based skincare, that is as effective as it is exciting to discover.
I have had my eye on the Kairos Moment serums from Lepaar long before they partnered with Boxwalla. Lepaar describe this capsule collection as their own ode to how our lives slowed and yet time continued to pass during 2020.
As soon as I saw that they were offered through Boxwalla, I subscribed right away. Most subscription boxes offer amazing value and this one was no different, at only $49.95 USD for 3 serums that normally retail for $188 USD.
I’m a little late, as can be expected due to shipping delays to Australia, but I finally received my box a few weeks ago and I’m already loving it!
There is one thing I’ll mention first, before I go into more detail, as I found that it’s actually one of my favourite aspects of Lepaar. Aside from their impeccable standards for pure, whole plant extracts and ethical sourcing, I definitely believe it keeps me coming back for more.
You may have noticed that when it comes to fragrance, I more often than not complain about it. I completely understand why consumers love it in their skincare. Scents can trigger memories, evoke feelings of pure joy and relaxation. It’s just unfortunate for me that many fragrances are normally in essential oil form. As such a concentrated form, most skincare formulations are far too strong for me and irritate my skin.
Lepaar have however, completely rekindled my passion for fragrance in skincare. They do include micro doses of some essential oils in their other products, but these serums are completely essential oil free. However, with each oil or extract being sun-infused, hand-picked, air dried or sun cured it allows the true unconcentrated scent to shine, without being overpowering or cloying.
Elastic Love / Firming Face + Neck Oil – $85.00 AUD for 15ml-0.5fl oz
Ingredients
Elastic Love has all the nurturing oils you’d come to expect in a potion that tightens, plumps and smooths skin all around, especially on your neck and jaw. It’s composed with elasticity boosting oils such as evening primrose, kalahari melon, black currant and pequi fruit. There are also plenty of extracts such as quince, native kangaroo paw and red clover to improve the integrity of your skin.
It’s the scent that captures me first. It is so bright and instantly uplifting from the melon and blackcurrant, while a subtle sweetness comes through after the initial burst of tangy berries. I pat two drops over my face first, but then let myself drink the sweet scent with a few deep breaths.
It’s beautifully lightweight, so much so, it’s absorbed seamlessly before I even realise it sometimes. As someone who’s very familiar with oil serums and actually enjoys the slight film they can leave sometimes, this barely leaves a trace.
Summer Wine / Even Tone Antioxidant Shield – $85.00 AUD for 15ml-0.5fl oz
Ingredients
Summer Wine is an anti-oxidant serum, powered with fermented grape, chardonnay and shiraz extracts. There are also strawberry seed, blackberry and grape oils to further bolster the cocktail. It also features dragon’s blood, a resin that works to calm and protect skin.
As for the scent it’s equally as fresh and berry sweet as Elastic Love. It does have a slightly intoxicating funk, an alcoholic undertone that appears from under the initial bright spark and tapers off. It almost makes me miss enjoying a glass of wine on nights out.
I mix two drops of this almost gleaming serum and two of Elastic Love and press it in all over my face. It sinks in effortlessly and leaves my skin feeling soft. I really love with all of Lepaar’s formulations, they’re enough to moisturise without feeling heavy or greasy.
Smooth Operator / Unfolding Face Balsam – $85.00 AUD for 15ml-0.5fl oz
Ingredients
Packed full of the beneficial nutrients found in green and roasted coffee oils, this serum is for softening fine lines from tension and stress. The silver skin coffee husk and dried cascara coffee cherry are both from artisanal coffee Mecca Coffee.
The scent is probably one of the harder ones for me to nail down. A strong, burst of coffee, albeit fresh coffee, rather than roasted, definitely overpowers the other scents of chocolate and vanilla. I do wish it was slightly stronger of roasted coffee, as it can be a little startling to my senses after Elastic Love and Summer Wine.
This has a slightly thicker consistency than the previous two serums, so I like to layer a couple of drops over the top once they’ve settled in. You can also dab a little under your eyes to help improve any darkness or fine lines.
Final Word
If I’m honest, it’s really easy to be caught up in the seemingly never ending hunt for effective skincare. In between balancing the desire to discover, buy and test new skincare, I try to minimize my purchases to focus more on what I actually need. It’s easier to justify money spent when skincare truly serves a purpose. I want my cleanser to leave my skin clean, I want my serums to brighten and tone. Throw in the necessity to avoid many, many common place ingredients, just so my body will tolerate it also makes the process … let’s just say a little less satisfying.
So it’s always an absolute delight when I find skincare that serves more than just a purpose. Sometimes skincare should be satisfying to use. It should be nourishing, nurturing and envelope your senses to the point where it makes you pause and appreciate the extra care you’re giving yourself.
I hate many fragrances, but I also miss the sensory experience so much. I loved Elastic Love and Summer Wine from the very first try, based on scent alone. They are such a fresh, spark of joy that makes me slow down, breathe them in and massage my face for a little moment longer. My skin drinks these up so that they feel weightless and absorbed within a few minutes. During the day they are the perfect base for a satin finish makeup, though if I want a dewier finish I just add an extra drop. For night time I simply layer with Smooth Operator and then an occlusive balm to seal it in.
It’ll take more time than I’ve currently had with these serums to determine the full extent of their benefits, but for the time being, they feel like a true love letter to anyone needing an indulgence. They cover a wide spectrum of skincare concerns in a really lightweight oil which is easily added to a beginner’s routine, or combined within a more extensive routine.
If any of these serums have piqued your interest, I would definitely recommend having a look sooner than later. This collection was solely created as a brief capture of a passed moment in time. There are no guarantees any of them will be recreated again. If you don’t mind waiting for shipping and can’t go past a good deal, they are still available from Boxwalla at a discounted $75 USD (approx $100 AUD). Otherwise Lepaar still stock them, in a mini capsule as well as a bigger sizes of 30ml. Trust me, once you find one you like, you may very well buy them all!
