RMS Beauty have achieved cult-like status. They pride themselves on being simple, not only with their pure ingredients but also their application.

Their Lip2Cheek products are:

‘Created with nourishing organic ingredients, each unique shade can vary from a youthful sheer to  a more densely colored stain.’

They have not sought certification as they don’t believe in the integrity of the USDA. You can read more here.

Most of their ingredients are certified organic, however you will notice in their listings not all are. They are gluten free (except the mascara), GMO free, soy free, nano-particle free and do not test on animals. They also do not contain steam distilled essential oils. They are not vegan as they contain propolis, however they do not contain carmine as a colourant. Some of their more vibrant colours contain a small amount of synthetic dyes.

Each pot lasts 12 months after opening.

Unfortunately they are quite expensive too. They are $36 US each, for 4.82g or 0.17oz. From Mecca Cosmetica they are $55.00 AUD.

Ingredients:

All Lip2Cheeks come in a frosted glass pot with an aluminium lid that twists off. The logo is printed on top, a sticker with the product name at the bottom. I’ve knocked them over on my glass makeup table a few times and I certainly wouldn’t want to drop them on the ground.

The product is firm so you have to warm it up with your fingers, or really work a lip brush into it.

I found it really hard to work with in winter. The texture will change with the weather. They will likely be almost runny with the summer heat.

If my lips are dry, a small amount catches on dryness and it isn’t emollient enough to cover evenly. I need to build it up to fully experience the moisturizing properties of its ingredients. There is a slight smell of oils. It’s barely noticeable.

With a brush or with your fingers. It spreads better with heat, however I don’t like sticking my fingers in unless they are freshly washed. If you happen to have a little spatula, it’s much easier to dig into the product. I just started using mine and it makes it a lot cleaner to use, rather than smearing it all over your fingers.

It’s well pigmented, yet not completely opaque. Smudge it on for a light wash of barely there colour. You can achieve a more opaque look with more product. They will leave a light stain on your lips once worn off.

‘A matte burnt rose hue with a hint of plum.’

This one pulls quite pink on me. I was hoping for a deeper plum. Even though I wanted a deeper plum, this is a perfect slightly darker ‘My Lips But Better’ shade. I don’t feel that fills in the fine lines on my lips unless I wear a balm underneath or apply a few layers. I like it applied heavier. It gives a sheen with 3 layers. This is one of my favourite purchases. This is my go to colour for blush during the winter.

Modest:

‘A fresh, rich berry pink color.’

Smudged lightly, it gives my lips a subtle berry pink. It’s well suited for spring or when I want to look fresh and youthful. I love this one as a smudged, light wash of colour. When it’s built up, it doesn’t sit on my lips right and starts to look too neon. I’ve since been traveling with this and it was so easy to use as a blush. I really, really love the fresh pop of pink it gives my cheeks. I have very oily skin too and it doesn’t make them extra oily, so that is a huge bonus. I find that dabbing on a little product and then gently patting it in works well, even over mineral foundation. It is my every day blush for spring.

PROS:

• Packaging is beautiful and easy to travel with
• Product is highly pigmented
• This product will last a long time, as you don’t need a lot of it for good colour payoff
• No fragrance
• Good ingredients
• Very natural finish
• Can be built up for a more opaque colour
• Versatile – it can be a stain, opaque colour and cheek colour

CONS:

• Expensive, especially with the conversion. A direct conversion amounts to approximately $48 AUS, not $55.
• Packaging is not practical for on the go touch ups. I would not use with my fingers if I was out. Though the glass looks elegant, there are also chances of it breaking if dropped and being scratched by other items in your bag
• I personally don’t use enough product all the time for it to be moisturizing, so I need to wear a balm underneath, or at the very least, right up until application
• If your skin cannot handle coconut oil, you may break out if used on your cheeks.

Final Word:

I love the colours, I love the ingredients and the morals behind this company.

For Modest I find it best to smudge a small amount, and leave it looking fresher and more natural. Illusive stays gorgeous, and becomes more of an opaque lipstick with more.

I have used this on my cheeks and it didn’t break out. It also doesn’t make them produce an extra oil, so the pigment stays strong. If you have no problems with coconut oil, I really recommend them as a cheek colour.

As a lip product I would prefer it be more emollient when using a small amount. If I’ve already spent $54 AUS I don’t necessarily want to need a balm or gloss to have it feeling comfortable. Less is more on the cheeks, but more is more on the lips.
