Fitglow Vita-Active Foundation Review & Swatches – VF2, VF 3.5, VF4, VF5 & VF6

Last week I found a new favourite red lipstick from Fitglow and this week I’m trying the Vita-Active Foundations from Fitglow.

I’m hoping to trial quite a few foundations because, not only would I like a liquid one, I think they’re even harder to match than lip colours! I’ve been using mineral makeup for the last 8 or so years so it’s fair to say I’ve had hardly any experience with any different varieties. What I do know is that I hate feeling like I’m wearing foundation, I need some level of oil control and I have such finicky skin it’s going to be hard to find one that doesn’t cause a breakout. I’ve only picked out the colours they’ve described as warm or yellow based, because I definitely don’t have a pink or cool undertone.

Scent:

It’s unscented but there is a very faint scent I can’t describe very well. It’s maybe a little herbal but honestly it’s barely noticeable. The texture is creamy, but not too thick and gluggy.

Application:

I apply directly to my skin and then buff it out with a foundation brush. It doesn’t dry down matte so you have a little time to work with.

Opacity:

I find this is light coverage that can be built to medium. It definitely doesn’t cover all my scars or pigmentation so you might need a concealer as well.

Swatches:

VF2, VF 3.5, VF4, VF5, VF6

VF2 is too light for my skin tone, even in winter. Either VF3.5 or VF4 suit me, with VF4 being slightly more golden and a touch darker. The other two are too dark for me.

The first time I tried this, I applied it over my usual skincare and I didn’t like the finish. It felt like I was wearing makeup. It can’t dry down matte over the oil I use, coupled with the fact my skin is oily to begin with.

The second time, I skipped my face oil and the finish was much better. I applied one thin layer first. I just smeared a little on each section of my face and blended it with my brush. I did find that I needed to blend quite hard on the areas it catches; my nose and between my eyebrows. Even that didn’t completely fix the problem. Over the rest of my face though it smooths down beautifully, so much so that it stays looking like my skin. Even without my face oil, it doesn’t dry down matte. It stays looking dewy and luminous.

For an hour or so it felt a little distracting around my mouth and between my eyebrows. After it settled down, it wore very well and didn’t break apart.

PROS:

It has no strong fragrance
The coverage still looks natural and skin-like
Good ingredients
Mostly easy to blend

CONS:

Catches on some areas of my face
A little difficult to blend in some places
The shade range won’t cater for very dark skin tones
Expensive
Not full coverage

Final Word:

I wouldn’t say I’ve found the perfect foundation for my skin. I did find it a little hard to blend in some areas, such as my nose and between my eyes. I much prefer it in light layers. I do like how well this smooths out my skin tone. Another bonus is that it doesn’t seem to have caused any breakouts but I can update if any pop up. It’s a great foundation if you have perfectly smooth skin without too much you want to cover. I just didn’t like how it sat on some areas and that it wasn’t enough coverage for everything. I would also prefer a slightly more matte finish considering how oily my skin ends up.
