Okoko Cosmétiques Review – Red Label & Lip Serum

Okoko Cosmétiques are yet another company who can count me as a customer for life! I tried their Mini Kit a while ago, and it completely changed my long held belief that toners were a waste of money! I have since been saving up so I can add their L’élixir de Clarté back into my routine.

Gone Swatching xoThese days I’m willing to spend that little bit extra on my skincare but I understand how extremely daunting it is to spend the money. This truly is a luxury line! The best way to try before you invest, is to stock up on some of their new travel sizes.

They added these elevated formulas, the Red Label Prestige Edition last year and you know I just had to try them.

This has a very woody and heady scent. It does dissipate quickly, which means it doesn’t bother me too much after the initial spray. Since it’s summer here, by happy coincedence, I discovered that keeping all three of these in the fridge drastically minimizes the scent!

This bi-phase serum is charged with an interesting blend of water and oil ingredients, which needs to be shaken together before use. The mister gives that satisfying light, evenly dispersed spritz everytime. I layer this over whatever serum I’m using morning and night. It sinks in easily but doesn’t evaporate leaving nothing. It leaves a slight stickiness to my skin, which I don’t love. Luckily it’s not noticeable once I’ve put my face balm on.

I’ve been trialing this as a pre-toner as well and while I haven’t noticed a change in efficacy, it does stop my skin feeling sticky. Okoko recommend using it this way, which I suppose I should’ve from the beginning, but my brain tells me that oils go after water. Either way, it’s still made a big change in my skin.

This has to be the single most expensive skincare product I’ve ever dared to consider! Seeing the results I had with the White Label L’Élixir De Pureté gave me confidence to try it. This is one item I wanted to test before investing in, so I requested it as the free gift with purchase, during their Green Friday sale.

This smooth, ruby red gel serum is cooling and easy to smooth on. While I only use one pump in the morning, in conjuction with the La Perle, it’s drastically improved the condition of my skin. These differences aren’t so much visual, rather the feel of my skin. It actually feels plusher and firmer to the touch, especially in my cheeks. After a few weeks of using both of them twice a day, my skin feels fortified. There are days now I only need to do my skincare at night, because my skin feels moisturised throughout the day from the previous night. That’s pretty amazing!

The heavy bullet looks so chic and luxurious, but ultimately it’s what inside that counts. I love how pretty the light blue, marbled with darker navy specks is. It’s very firm and dry so it takes a couple of swipes to feel like you’ve applied anything.

The texture though is something different. It’s not sticky, but it does adhere to your lips in a way that’s comfortable and lets the ingredients last, so they can work their magic. I prefer to wear this at night, or with another lip product layered on top. I find it’s not overly emollient (think a silkier, glossier balm like Henné or the Velvet Sole). Another reason it’s best to layer this, is that any serum that catches on dry patches looks blue! It’s not an issue if you’ve only applied the slightest amount but I do find myself wanting a tad more so I get that satisfying slip when I rub my lips together.

It’s not until it warms up with the heat from your lips that you’ll have the satisfying slip. The first night I wore this, it was still on in the morning. I woke up with my lips looking smoother and feeling plump. Even more surprising, they looked plumper! The dry patches weren’t completely gone, but the more and more I use this, there aren’t any to contend with.

The scent of the Camphor Bark Oil & Blue Tansy is very strong for me but it does dissipate quickly. So far it hasn’t caused me issues, but I do think I’ll use this sparingly. Again, if you keep it in the fridge, it does cut down on the smell a little.

Now that it’s been a part of my routine for a month or so, my lips don’t dry out as quickly and they hardly ever crack. Their lip serum is truly a worthy addition to anyone’s skincare routine.

Final Word

I loved the first toners I tried from Okoko and I suppose that’s the reason why I held out for so long to try them again. What I remember from them is that my skin was clear and smooth. The results from these though are almost an extra step. Smooth, clear but the plumping and firming of my skin, especially in my cheeks is amazing.

My oil serums from Lepaar nourish my skin on a surface level, taking care of fine lines. I find that when I’m only using them, I can’t skip my skincare routine even once, or my skin starts to feel dry. Using these, even just once a day, my skin feels fortified. Normally I crave my nightly routine because I need to nourish my skin. If I do miss the morning routine I find myself looking forward to the night time, but not needing it (if that makes sense)! To put it more clearly, I can skip my morning routine all together and my skin doesn’t suffer for it!

Now when it comes to price do I think it’s worth it? Well I’m not 100% certain I could get the same results using the White & Black Label toners, so I can’t say for sure. I also haven’t had the same plumping effects with other toners that I’ve experienced with these. I always feel my best when I think my skin looks it’s best, so in some ways yes! It’s worth it for me. I love the way my skin feels these days, especially since the products are so effective I have been able to cut back my routine.

On the other hand, this is by far the most expensive skincare I’ve purchased and I do dread the hit my wallet will take again. This past year, I have been waiting and holding out for another Okoko Cosmétiques Green Friday sale. I would also recommend signing up for their newsletter, or joining their Instagram to see when they have offers.
