I’ve saved my favourites until last! I started this blog with lipstick and I’ll finish this year with all my favourite colours from 2019.
I’ve experimented with colour & technique, found which looks I prefer & now it’s time to wind down & enjoy the makeup I have. Not only that, but I find that I keep returning to similar colours, textures & makeup techniques, so it’s pretty wasteful of me to keep buying lipsticks I may never finish!
For my Best of 2019 list, I’ve picked at least one favourite colour from every brand I reviewed. You can probably see I’m drawn to warm nudes, pinks, reds & even some oranges. Click through any of the links to find more shades from the brand, to find which ones might be calling your fancy!
I would love to hear of any lipsticks you might want swatched & tested, so if you have any requests, please send them through! You might find that my Instagram presence will be quieter as well, but I’m always going to like taking photos, so you can keep up me with there.
Otherwise, thanks for being with me throughout this colour journey & if you stick around, I hope you like any new content I think of!
So thank you to everyone who’s stuck around through the constant lip swatches. I’m sure I’ve run out of ways to pout but you’re still here!
Ere Perez Cacao Lip Colour – Hoopla
Yes, another warm nude! I know, but I find that warm nudes are more wearable than a neutral. I often don’t spend too much time on my eye makeup, so having a colour that works for every situation is a must. I will mention though that this doesn’t cover dryness too well, so make sure your lips are well exfoliated, but otherwise the formula is very comfortable!
Ere Perez Olive Oil Lipstick – Cocktail & Carnivale
The formula of the Olive Oil lipstick varies a little from each shade, but I love the colour of Cocktail. It’s that warm toned pink with a touch of red, that makes it suitable for everyday or dressier events. Then I also love Carnivale because of how juicy & balmy it is. Orange with strong red undertones is a favourite of mine because it’s so lively.
You can find the link to Carnivale here.
Ere Perez Carrot Colour Pot – Hello
I’m surprised I like this as much as I do, but there is just something about this bright pink that I freaking love. I also love it applied heavily like this, even though I don’t normally love pink, but it compliments my skin so well. I’m happy to throw on jeans, a white shirt & boots & feel dressy. Just magic!
Beautifēk Lipstick – Coral
I am surprised that I continue to love orange, but this is such a beautiful, deep sunset orange I can’t go past it. Not to mention, it’s also quite a close match to my other favourite, Bittersweet by Nudus, so I’m pretty biased! I also love that this formula has no titanium dioxide or mica (some people are sensitive to these) so it’s another clean option.
Ilia Beauty Colour Block High Impact Lipstick – Amberlight & Cinnabar
Another nude? Yes please! So I’ve read that there are many ways to decide which is the best nude for you, nipples, your lips natural colour, skin tone & undertones, being among them. I’d venture looking at the inside of your lips too! That’s why Amberlight is the perfect match for me. I actually like most of their nudes, but none of them are as spot on as this. I can wear this colour without having to balance it out with a strong smoky eye (something I don’t enjoy doing or wearing)
I also love the shade Cinnabar. I don’t think I’ve swatched another colour that captures the warmth, that’s bold yet soft all at once.
Elate Cosmetics Lipstick – Blaze & Vivacious
Admittedly Blaze is pretty similar to Carnivale (a touch darker), but I do love those warm orange reds! If I had to pick between them, I’d go Carnivale just because the Olive Oil lipsticks are unscented, unlike the vanilla found in these. That said, the lipsticks from Elate Cosmetics are primarily organic & some people love scent in their products. Elate also have bamboo packaging which is more eco-friendly, so all things to consider!
Vivacious is another colour that took me by surprise. I almost never choose purple tones. Looking at it, I never would have guess it would be a favourite. I think the sheerness gives my lips a gorgeous flush, along with all the moisturising ingredients, it’s a beautiful everyday choice.
Noyah Lipstick – Empire Red
Noyah remain one of my favourite brands, for a true opaque lipstick, with a creamy, glossy finish. You do not need anything underneath or on top of these to have them smooth over fine lines and feel comfortable. And yes … I love a striking red!
RMS Beauty Wild with Desire Lipstick – Firestarter
The RMS lipsticks aren’t my favourite formula. I found every single one of these other lipsticks to feel more comfortable, because these are a touch dry, heavy & tacky. The pigment is fantastic though & I am a sucker for a beautiful red. Firestarter is a warm, bright & bold red, perfect for that statement lip.
100% Pure Fruit Pigmented Cocoa Butter Matte Lipstick – Sandstone
Sandstone is a very wearable brown nude, that is so flattering! I love how they feel & wear, also that the formula is so opaque, but I can’t stand the smell or the irritation. I have trawled the internet & have not found one other person who has the same issue though, so it’s likely you won’t have a reaction!
Ilia Beauty Tinted Lip Conditioner – Nobody’s Baby & These Days
The tinted lip conditioners from Ilia are a winning combination of formula & colour in my opinion. They are smooth, creamy & moisturizing with colour that lasts after the balm wears away.
I’m in love with the nudes from Ilia Beauty. I haven’t found another company that has such wearable ones, in a few different options as well. Nobody’s Baby is a pink nude, while These Days has a touch of shimmer, but is warmer.
Ilia Beauty Multi-Stick – All of Me, Cheek to Cheek, Lady Bird & A Fine Romance
Finally, to the last colours of the year! Ilia Beauty have done really well with the formula of these Multi-sticks. The pigment is sheer & wearable for everyday across the entire range. I also like that they aren’t too wet on the cheeks, yet balmy enough for the lips. I tend to wear the same colour on both so it’s the perfect product for me, travel friendly, scent free & all!
I love that All of Me is a juicier pink, while Cheek to Cheek satisfies my desire for something a little different. The absolute favourite though has to be Lady Bird for being a nude pink that makes me look pulled together but not overly dressy!
As you can probably tell from most of my reviews, I often don’t pick the deep berry shades as my favourite & that is purely because I find they make me look older. I feel they darken my features & make my lips look smaller. The sheerness of A Fine Romance keeps it looking fresher and a little brighter. It’s also a super smooth formula without any patchiness (many similar shades don’t apply nearly as well!)
I could actually pick a lot more than these, but these are the ones I’d reach for over & over. I know I’m totally biased towards warm tones, with moisturising formulas, but I just think they suit me so well!
I hope you’ve enjoyed the swatches this year & while this won’t be the end of my blog, I will be slowing down. I have so many lipsticks now, I’m challenging myself to finish next them year!
I hope you’ve all had a fantastic year & the New Year brings even more.
I hope you think of this blog anytime you need to find swatches, otherwise join me on instagram where I’m slightly more consistent with posting pretty pictures of makeup & skincare!
